James "Jim" Walter Cryer is the male lead villain protagonist and antihero, Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots. He is portrayed by John Schneider.

BiographyEdit

Jim was originally born on a small farm where his parents barely had money to make ends meet and Jim was able to leave such a lifestyle due to having a football scholarship which eventually go to law school where he met his future best friend David Harrington and Veronica (David's future wife). At a later point, he met the heiress Katheryn Hardgrave who would later become his wife upon their graduation. Jim would soon become a powerful criminal courts judge in Savannah, Georgia and through his marriage to Katheryn would gain great wealth which would grow due to his occupation. Jim and Katheryn would later have children a son Wyatt and a daughter Amanda. At some point, Jim had a series of affairs one of which was with his maid Celine Gonzales that resulted in the births of two sons named Carlos and Jimmy.

Personality Edit

Having grown up with very little, Jim has come to value his wealthy lifestyle which along with his occupation as a judge has led to him becoming very greedy and corrupted. Jim sometimes abuses his power to get what he wants which has gained him many enemies over the years. Jim is also a womanizer he has been unfaithful to his wife for many years and regularly goes after any attractive woman that earns his attention. His wife Katheryn has learned to turn a blind eye to this and the put up an act of being a happy couple while at home they are always at each other's throats and for that reason sleep in separate rooms.

His relationship with his children varies as like Hanna and Candace's, Jim and Wyatt have a strained relationship due to Wyatt's drug addiction. While Jim is more gentle with his daughter Amanda, who is a well behaved law student. However, Jim considers them the only people he cares about which is shown when he goes through great lengths to protect his son from going to prison after he commits a serious crime and when he tracked down and mercilessly beat the man who raped his daughter which led to her having a mental breakdown and led her to suicide.

Season OneEdit

The season starts with Jim having a conversation with his wife Katheryn on the phone. It's his 50th birthday and his wife has prepared a small gathering at the house to celebrate. She asks him to be home by 6 and he agrees to do so after work. However, Jim is actually at a hotel waiting on the Atrractive but scandalous Candace Young to show up. They have sex and Jim leaves to go home. After reaching home, Jim is greeted by his wife and son Wyatt, who is wandering naked around the house. The two get into an altercation until his daughter Amanda enters the room. Amanda then introduces her new friend Candace to the family, the same escort who Jim slept with just hours before.

Jim attends his party but is obviously troubled by Candace's presence. After the party is finished he leaves to go to his room where his wife asks him about his odd behavior. He blames his behavior on the presence of Wyatt and Amanda, who both have different issues. Later that night Jim confronts Candace and tells her to leave his house the following day. Trouble ensues when it is revealed that Candace wants $100,000 and a fancy sports car to keep quiet about his affair.

In the middle of the season he begins to run for governor office. In the season one finale, he is angered to find out that his daughter is suing him along with Candace for Amanda's inheritance. He is also angry that Wyatt fell back into his old habits and supposedly struck someone and tells Katheryn he will handle their son's actions.

Season TwoEdit

In this season, he learns that Wyatt indeed struck someone a six year old girl and man revealed to Hanna's son Benny. He spends most of the season along with David attempting to cover up Wyatt's act and finding the car but has hard time dealing with the situation especially when Amanda suffers a mental breakdown. He blames Candace for Amanda's problem and is angered when she blackmails him by telling him she's "pregnant" and having enough he has friends The Malones take care of her and after they managed to subject her to follow his demands. He visits her having her dropped the lawsuit, give back the car and stay away from his family. He cleans out Candace and Amanda's apartment and has daughter move back in the house.

In the middle of the season, when Hanna tells police of Wyatt's crime, Jim rushes home to tell Wyatt the police will come and take him to jail but tells him not to say anything. Before his arrest, Wyatt tells a shocked Jim that Veronica has the black sedan and that he learned this news from Jeffrey. Jim keeps that news to himself and Wyatt is soon arrested and Jim goes down to the station and comes face to face with an old enemy DA Jennifer Sallison who is intent on getting Wyatt convicted. Jim is later upset when Wyatt confesses to the crime but later gets a man to pretend that Wyatt struck him and that Jim covered up the incident which allows him to get Wyatt out. To take care of Hanna, he has an officer watch her every move to make sure she doesn't do it again. Jim later sees David and tells him of Veronica having the black sedan that Wyatt used in his crime.

Jim also meets his illegitimate son (with Celine) Carlos and has a violent meeting with him which results in Jim firing him from his job at the campaign office.

In the season two finale, he has a man named Norman (who looks identical to Wyatt) take the fall for the crime thus freeing Wyatt from the arriving DA Jennifer Sallison clutches. He celebrates Wyatt's liberation of the crime but finds another with Amanda who brings ex-convict Quincy Maxwell who later attacks Jim after learning Jim slept with his ex-girlfriend Candace. When Quincy leaves Jim demands to know how Quincy, a murderer got out of jail.

At the end, Jim is sent a text message and goes outside where he is kidnapped and stuffed in a trunk of a car that takes him to an unknown location.

Season Three Edit

In the season three, he is held hostage by Candace who promises to release him if he gives her a large amount of money although he refuses. Throughout the first few episodes, Jim is repeatedly tortured by Candace and her friends in various humiliating ways until he gives into Candace's demands. He gives her $7.4 million dollars and is released by her. He struggles to get a ride until a kind woman takes him home and he learns of his daughter committing suicide.

He again struggles with having to put up with Wyatt and Candace (who he blames for not letting stop Amanda).

In the middle of the season, he has Wyatt placed in jail to make him see what prison was like and with Katheryn he holds Candace hostage to get answers. At Hanna's behest, Candace tells the Cryers that Amanda was raped by her law professor Cannon which led to her breakdown and Jim swore to track down the man. When Katheryn confirmed Candace's words by reading Amanda's diary, Jim became even more angry and determined to locate him.

He and Katheryn visit Wyatt in jail and they see him very scared but Jim said it wasn't long enough as Wyatt still needed to learn. The two leave Wyatt and later meet Cannon at his job. Jim was calm at first but gradually lost his composure after the man revealed he thought Amanda was an escort and they had sex and he learned she was a virgin. After hearing this, Jim proceeded to viciously beat the man telling him "You're dead man, you demon! A dead man!!!" however he was stopped by Katheryn who told him "Not this way, not this way" hinting she has an even better satisfying form of punishment in stored. Jim collected himself and kicked the man once more and hit him on the head with his car door before leaving the beaten and scared man on the ground.

Once at home, he is interviewed by Jennifer Sallison but they don't give her any information and she leaves. When Veronica comments on Wyatt's stay in jail, Jim asks her how she knew and she tells him David told her. He is soon warned by David to get Wyatt out of jail as he is in danger and Jim goes to check it out.

While at the prison, Jim was told that Wyatt was sexually assaulted by a known dangerous inmate and that a guard named Terrell was responsible for letting the inmate in, resulting in the incident. Jim had the other guards leave but had Terrell stay in the room where he personally told the latter if anything was wrong with his son he would have Terrell killed in front of his entire family.

Jim breaks down at what has happened to Wyatt before regaining his composure and telling Wyatt that he should let him stay in jail but after Wyatt promised he'll behave Jim lets his son out. On the ride home, Jim tells Wyatt that he had him put there to show him the fate he protected him from and Wyatt promises to get in line.

Jim is soon humiliated on national television by his son Carlos who along with Celine and Jimmy (Jim's other son with Celine). After his embarrassment, Jim learns Veronica arranged Wyatt's rape and attacks her until David gets him off her. In his office, Jim is visited by David and he will always be his friend but if something happened to his wife he will show him an enemy like he never saw before but Jim unfazed secretly ordered for the deaths of Veronica, Cannon, Terrell, and Wyatt's rapist.

In the season three finale, Jim visits Celine and tells her that he's sorry and he loves her before proceeding to bed her and after the encounter he told her he has no intention of ever allowing her to work for him again and he never love her and just used Celine for sex even insulting her for believing his words. He tells her that this was revenge for humiliating him and annoying him stating they are now "even" before leaving the apartment but Celine angrily stated they are not even.

He then tells his connections to go through with the deaths of the people he listed but to save Veronica for last. He gives delivers a speech stating he has made a lot of mistakes and that he will make up for them. While his speech goes on Jim has Cannon, Terrell and Wyatt's rapist killed for their actions against his children. However, at the end of his speech Jim along with Katheryn, David, and Veronica are arrested for tampering with evidence in Wyatt's crime.

Season Four Edit

In this season Jim is put in jail for covering up Wyatt's crime and as his fellows are released Jim remains in jail.

While spending time, Jim is visited by bank representative who tells him of Candace needing money as she ran out of the money Jim gave her. Jim tells the representative to give her the money but to put a finding print that says she must pay or else she goes to jail.

He is later visited by Katheryn who informs him of Wyatt getting his inheritance from Jennifer Sallison and Jim tells her to get that money back or else Wyatt would potentially kill himself.

Jim is soon visited by David who violently beats Jim for putting a hit on Veronica. David later apologizes after it is discovered that it was not Veronica but Maggie Day who was killed.

Jim reveals he did a background check on War after he was freed by Candace. The continue talking and War learns Candace took over $7 million from Jim which causes him to angrily states he is going to kill Candace something an amused Jim provokes. Jim promises to get War released and threatens to turn on him once he is done with Candace as revenge for kidnapping him. However, an unfazed War reveals he has copies of Jim in several compromising positions which threatens to have released to the public if Jim turns on him. The two soon put aside their differences and decide to take down a common enemy.

RelationshipsEdit

FamilyEdit

Katheryn Cryer(Wife)Edit

Katheryn is Jim's wife, and the mother of his son Wyatt and daughter Amanda. Katheryn's relationship with her husband is not a loving one, as they apparently haven't slept in the same bed for many years, and Katheryn is also aware that Jim pays for escorts and prostitutes to satisfy his sexual needs. These infidelities do not seem to bother Katheryn, who appears to have learned to look the other way. Also when talking to Wyatt, Katheryn revealed that she had some affairs as well which shocked Jim who acted somewhat jealous at this revelation. Despite their issues they show that they can agree on some things when it comes to their children such as Wyatt's reckless actions and Amanda's mental health issues. The two were seen united when tracking down their late daughter's rapist who caused her mental breakdown and making him pay for his actions that led to the death of their daughter.

Wyatt Cryer (Son)Edit

Wyatt is Jim and Katheryn's son, who does not appear to be especially close to his father. Portrayed as Jim and Katheryn's "problem child" of sorts, Wyatt is a recovering addict who lives in an in-patient rehab facility run by Veronica Harrington and her son Jeffrey . He is shown to be a strict father towards his son and often comes down as over bearing but it is shown that he deeply loves and cares for his son which is shown when he covers his son's hit and run. During a talk with david he tearfully reveals that despite the campaign he is more concerned about his son going to jail for the rest of his natural life. He also vows to his son that he will always be there to protect him shown again when he rushes home to warn his son about the police coming to get him and promises to bail him out. Jim went through extreme measures just to secure his son's freedom such as hiring a man to pose as struck man Wyatt struck and orchestrating a man who looked like Wyatt to take the fall for him. He told a grateful Katheryn that Wyatt is his son as well which was another proof of his love for his son. When Amanda committed suicide and Jim wasn't present in the house Wyatt looked through Jim's phone to confirm he was cheating this led to his vices returning and for him to lash out at his parents. Wyatt's behavior caused him to resent Jim and later ignited a fight which nearly made Jim kill him out of anger. When Wyatt confessed to the DA about the hit and run, Jim decided to show Wyatt what prison was like by pulling a few favors, getting the man who liked Wyatt out of jail and having Wyatt take his place. Jim later told David that Wyatt and Amanda are the people he truly cares about and though he tried to help them they wouldn't help themselves. This showed he was reluctant about putting his son in jail but felt he needed to learn a lesson to get back in line. When visiting Wyatt, Jim took pleasure at seeing how far a week in prison has truly broken Wyatt and wondered if they should bail him out. However, he came to the decision that Wyatt needs to spend more time to truly learn to stay in line which caused Wyatt to beg him to get him out but Jim stated he couldn't help him in jail and left the building. In a later conversation with Katheryn, he states he'll get Wyatt out the next day as he feels he's finally learned a lesson. However, upon learning of his son being raped by an inmate (secretly employed by Veronica) Jim broke down and threatened the guard who allowed the inmate in the cell. When seeing Wyatt he tried to regain his composure and promised his son he will get him out after the latter apologizes for his behavior and promises to get in line. Wyatt gets revenge on Jim by finding the black sedan and being giving immunity provided he testifies against Jim for obstruction of justice. Wyatt worried for his safety if Jim is released and is given his inheritance to move out and await the trial. When Hanna tells Jim that Wyatt is dead, he breaks down in tears after losing another child. Later on, Jim entrust David to verify it is Wyatt's body the DA found something David does. He then tells Jim that it was Wyatt but he was not dead just simply unconscious something that relieves Jim.

Amanda Cryer (Daughter)Edit

Amanda is Jim and Katheryn's daughter who often feels neglected by both her father and mother, and as a result of this is very mentally and emotionally unstable. Jim seems oblivious to this until Amanda has a major breakdown, and believes Amanda is happy and well in law school, though she is only doing it to appease him. Like Wyatt jim is shown to deeply love his daughter refusing to have her committed again as well as confronting her about the whereabouts of her gun and arranging for a psycharist to come over and help resolve her issues. When it is revealed that Amanda killed herself, Jim was deeply shocked and was genuinely sadden by the loss of his little girl. He broke down into tears about her death, he even asked the DA to allow him to see his daughter so he would know this event was real and he wouldn't have to relive it. Upon seeing her body, Jim was horrified but sadly told his late daughter "Bye Baby" before zipping up the body bag and sitting down crying. Amanda's death really impacted Jim, as he even went as far as to apologizing to Katheryn about not having her committed as doing so probably would have allowed her to still be alive and attacked Wyatt for his snarky comments. Upon finding out that she was raped by her former law professor which led to her having a break down, he became angry and immediately tracked down the man giving him a severe beating after it was confirmed. Jim avenged his daughter by having Cannon killed when listing people he wanted gone.

Carlos Gonzales (illegitimate son)Edit

Is Jim's son born from his affair with maid Celine Gonzales. His existence was hinted after jim had conference about Wyatt with celine commenting that wishes jim was there for "all" his kids and received an angered stare from jim who asked about wyatt. It is unknown if jim was ever in carlos' life but this would seem unlikely as jim had recently met carlos as the latter worked at his campaign office a few years later and did not learn his relation to celine until he was confronted by the latter. Carlos stated the he had waited for years to meet jim and when seeing him on television protecting wyatt and saying he would always be there for him. Carlos asked when was it going to be his turn to have some time with his father before walking out the office and coldly referring to his father as "Jim" and left the manor. Later on, Jim requested that Maggie Day and David fire Carlos from the campaign office (without stating the reason for doing so). This shows that he had no interest in connecting with his newly discovered son. Later on, Carlos shames Jim on national television by stating that Jim shouldn't be allowed to be governor as well declaring that the man is unable to govern his own home as he doesn't care about anyone not even his other children (who he is sad he never met). Carlos rejected Jim's apology and stated since he is grown man, he doesn't need Jim in his life and doesn't want him in it but states his younger brother needs his father.

Jimmy Gonzales (illegitimate son)Edit

Is Jim's other son with his former maid Celine named after his father. As with Carlos his existence was hinted when Celine made remark about Jim's press conference in which she stated she wished Jim was there for "all" his kids receiving an angered stare from Jim who asked about Wyatt. No direct interaction has been seen between the two but Jim was shocked when seeing the young child along with Carlos and Celine while he was being interviewed. After sleep with and insulting Celine, Jim promises to give her child support but stating as a judge he will use his powers to give them very little.

FriendsEdit

David HarrringtonEdit

David is a fellow judge and Jim's most trusted friend and adviser. Jim had met David while the two were in law school and they have been friends for the longest over the years to the point where their kids would grow up together. Years later the two would become very powerful judges in Georgia but maintain a strong partnership as they would later run for governor and lieutenant governor showing that the trust they put into each other. It would appear that David is usually the one to clean up Jim's messes as he seems to know private investigators and others who can make people "disappear" from the latter's life without a trace of trouble showing up. Jim is shown to put much faith and trust in David and is shown to worry about his friend as shown when he rush to talk to David when he learned of his (David's) home catching on fire. When Jim lashed out and physically attacked veronica when hearing she had an inmate rape Wyatt, David stopped Jim from killing her and angrily told him not to ever lay a hand on his wife. When calming down David told Jim he will always be his friend but if something happened to his wife he will show him an enemy like he never saw before but Jim unfazed secretly ordered for Veronica's death. David found out and violently beat Jim for putting hit on Veronica but later discovered that it was not Veronica but Maggie Day who was killed. He apologized but learned Jim did order for Veronica's death he called it off after seeing David worried expression which reminded him of how he felt when Amanda died. When David asked what their status is Jim declared them as frienemies and he owes David a beating in the future which they laugh off. Later on, Jim entrust David to verify it is Wyatt's body the DA found something David does. He then tells Jim that it was Wyatt but he was not dead just simply unconscious something that relieves Jim.

Mama RoseEdit

Is the leader of a group of thugs called the Malones, she and Jim are on good terms as Jim has helped her and her group through tough times. Jim has called on the Malones to make people who were a threat to him disappear as shown when called upon her aid to handle Candace and was very pleased that they manage to terrify the young woman. Rose is shown to be very dedicated to Jim as she wished to help put him in the governor house as well as tracking down an ex-con Jim needed to take the fall for his son.

Dalliances and AffairsEdit

Jim is known to be a ladies' man, and according to Katheryn, who assigns numbers to his mistresses, has had many affairs. Only two of his know

Known/ConfirmedEdit

Celine GonzalesEdit

Celine is one of the Cryer's maids it is revealed in episode that Celine and Jim had once had an affair, which Celine broke off prior to the start of the series. Celine admits that she misses him and desperately wishes Jim would take her back, but Jim wants nothing to do with her and bluntly told her he never loved her and only wanted sex. Katheryn sees Celine as she does candace and refers to the maid as "four" likely meaning she is his fourth mistress. It is later revealed that the pair have two sons together one is Carlos who is grown and a seven year old boy named Jimmy.

Candace YoungEdit

Candace is the daughter of Hanna Young, one of the Cryer's maids. She is a college student, but in The Big Surprise, she is revealed to be working as an escort whom Jim contacted for services. She is apparently his ninth mistress, as Katheryn refers to her as "Nine".

Possible/UnconfirmedEdit

Veronica HarringtonEdit

It is implied by Candace that Jim may have had a sexual encounter with Veronica one year on his birthday. This remains unconfirmed by anyone to date but seems unlikely as Jim and David are very close friends and Katheryn has not given veronica a number like she does to Jim's other mistresses and refers to her by name.

EnemiesEdit

Due to his corrupted and wicked ways, Jim has made a list of enemies in the past. No

Celine GonzalesEdit

Jim's former lover and maid, she humiliated him by going on national television with their two sons during Jim's announcement for Governor but she stated she didn't want to do it. When confronted about this she told him that she was really hurt that he fired her and that she had information on him and was not about let it go to waste now that she has no job to support her family. Jim angrily told Celine that she was the one that hurt him because she once she said that she was getting back together with her husband and left him all alone. Later on, Jim visits Celine and tells her that he's sorry and he loves her before proceeding to bed her and after the encounter he told her he has no intention of ever allowing her to work for him again and he never love her and just used Celine for sex even insulting her for believing his words. He tells her that this was revenge for humiliating him and annoying him stating they are now "even" before leaving the apartment but Celine angrily stated they are not even.

Candace YoungEdit

Is Jim's former lover, she blackmailed him for money, a car as well telling him that she was "pregnant" with his child and she expected him to pay her to keep it from going public. Jim was beyond angered with this that he arranged for Candace to be kidnapped by his friends the Malones and though shocked she wasn't pregnant, he was very pleased to see the Malones had succeeded in breaking Candace and made her submit to his demands in order to be released. However, Candace struck back by having Jim kidnapped and tortured for a large sum of money if he wanted to released, he was forced to comply and he ended up being released while suffering humiliation at the young woman's hands. He even swore to David that he will take revenge on Candace for not only humiliating him but preventing him to be with his daughter during her suicide. Despite this, Jim was willingly to listen and believed Candace when she told him that Amanda's breakdown was due to her being raped by her law professor. In the season 3 finale, Jim is seen cooperating with War by telling him to kill Candace after the latter incriminated for a crime by Candace (really Mitch Malone).

Professor CannonEdit

Is the law professor of his daughter Amanda, for most of the first and second season Jim did not know that the man was responsible for the breakdown of his daughter which later caused her to commit suicide. When confronting Candace about why Amanda committed suicide she revealed that her professor raped her after giving her make up test on her bar exam and showing up at their apartment. Jim was horrified to learn that this happened especially when finding out that Amanda attempted to tell him when she went to the hospital after freaking out and he shrugged it off. When the story was over Jim was told by Katheryn to find him which he agreed to without hesitation and he had his connections track down the man at his job. He became even more angered when Katheryn found Amanda's diary which confirmed details of the rape as well as Amanda's dissent into madness due to the recurring nightmares of the experience. When confronting the man in person Jim was calm at first but gradually lost his composure after the man revealed he thought Amanda was an escort and they had sex and he learned she was a virgin. After hearing this, Jim proceeded to viciously beat the man telling him "You're dead man, you thief! A dead man!!!" however he was stopped by Katheryn who told him "Not this way, not this way" hinting she has an even better satisfying form of punishment in stored. Jim collected himself and kicked the man once more and hit him on the head with his car door before leaving the beaten and scared man on the ground. Later on, Jim called some connections saying he needed a few people dead listing Cannon as one of the people something that was carried during Jim's speech for governor. Due to Cannon's death, Jim avenged his late daughter.

Officer TerrellEdit

Is a prison guard Jim met after he went to pick up Wyatt after being warned by David that the latter was in danger. When arriving at the prison Jim was told that Wyatt was sexually assaulted by a known dangerous inmate and that Terrell was responsible for the incident. Jim had the other guards leave but had Terrell stay in the room where he personally told the latter if anything was wrong with his son he would have Terrell killed in front of his entire family. Later after a confrontation with David and Veronica, Jim listed Terrell as one of the people he wanted dead no doubt due to the latter's actions at the prison. During his governor campaign speech, Terrell along with the prisoner who raped Wyatt were killed. Due to Terrell and the rapist's death Jim avenged his son's misfortune in prison.

Jennifer SallisonEdit

Jennifer Sallison is a District Attorney who has been a arch enemy to The Cryers and The Harringtons. When Wyatt was arrested, Jennifer appeared and its clear there is some enmity between her, Jim and David. It is speculated by Katheryn that Jim and Jennifer had an affair which ended with Jim breaking Jennifer's heart. Jennifer gloated in front of Jim and stated Wyatt's arrest would ruin his chances of becoming governor, she started to worry over Wyatt potentially being released but relished in her victory over Jim after Wyatt confessed tells the press of Wyatt's crime and his status as Jim's son. When Wyatt was released, Jennifer went through great lengths to arrest Wyatt but Jim prevented her each time. In Season 4 Episode 10: "Beg for What You Need" Lloyd told Katheryn that the D.A. gave Wyatt $2 million dollars, and have his inheritance. In Season 4 Episode 23: "Promises Kept" at the end of the fourth season, D.A. Jeniffer Sallison is murdered by Katheryn Cryer, she does not return in the fifth season.

Veronica HarringtonEdit

Is David's wife similar to her husband she met Jim in Law School and the two have been friends for a long time. Though despite the long history between the two it would seem that veronica is more closer to Jim's wife Katheryn than she is to Jim. Veronica is well aware of Jim's philandering ways as shown when she walked in on Jim with Candace as well how he and his family put up a loving façade for the public. In season 3, Jim and Veronica have occasional arguments but their friendship ends when Jim learns of Veronica having a violent inmate rape his son and when she casually confirms it, he lashes out and violently attacks her only to stop by David and Landon. Later on, Jim calls for the death of the three people he wanted dead on his list included Veronica no doubt due to her vile actions. Jim would later state he wanted to save Veronica for last. However, he called it off after seeing David worried expression which reminded him of how he felt when Amanda died.In the fifth season premiere, Veronica is stunned after Katheryn lashes out in anger, she was confronted about Wyatt been assaulted. Katheryn battles Veronica, then Katheryn blames Veronica for murdering the D.A.

Warlock/WarEdit

Jim met War while he was held captive by Candace in "The Power Dance", Jim tries to negotiate with him but War refuses and leaves Jim with only his name. War meets Jim again in jail and the latter reveals he did a background check on War after he was freed by Candace. They continue talking and War learns Candace took over $7 million from Jim which causes him to angrily states he is going to kill Candace something an amused Jim provokes. Warlock will be getting out and have a plan to kill Candace before Benny finds out, this time he's gonna kill War, he's going down.
